• Participate in the international water Prizes

    Awards will be given during the 6th World Water Forum in Marseille, March 2012

    In previous editions of the World Water Forum, several Prizes were created to reward positive actions in the domain of water and to raise public awareness and media attention for global water issues.

    • The King Hassan II Great World Water Prize rewards a long-term project or career
    • The Kyoto World Water Grand Prize is awarded to a person or organisation that has carried out grassroots actions to respond to the water needs of communities in critical situations
    • The ‘Compromiso Mexico’ Water Prize
    • Republic of Turkey Prime Minister’s Water Prize
    • The RIEC-International “Water & Film” Event
    • Prize for Water and Adaptation Actions (PrizeWAA)

     

    The King Hassan II Great World Water Prize

    Applications are now closed

    The amount of the Prize is 100,000 US$, offered by the Kingdom of Morocco to an individual, a group of individuals, an institution or an organisation having accomplished a major contribution to the theme of the Prize: "Cooperation and solidarity in the fields of management and development in water resources"
    A permanent committee comprised of members from the Kingdom of Morocco and the World Water Council oversees the organisation and promotion of the Prize.
    A jury including international and Moroccan figures who are knowledgeable about the world of water select the Prize winner.

    The Kyoto World Water Grand Prize

    During the 6th World Water Forum in Marseille, the award of JP¥ 3,000,000 will be given to the winning organisation whose grassroots activities work towards addressing critical water needs of communities and regions.
    Activities may include projects, awareness-raising campaigns and promotion of participatory process on water-related issues such as water supply and sanitation, water-related diseases, irrigation, drainage, dams, river and lake basins, wetlands, groundwater, poverty, gender and/or ethnic equity, capacity building, community participation, poverty reduction and more.

    ‘Compromiso Mexico’ Water Prize

    This Prize aims to highlight water supply and sanitation policies implemented by local governments that have made a real difference to the social, economic and environmental wellbeing of their constituencies. 3 Prizes will be awarded: 15,000, 10,000 and 5,000 US$.

    Republic of Turkey Prime Minister’s Water Prize

    Applications are now closed.

    As the host country of the 5th World Water Forum, Republic of Turkey aims to contribute to and cooperate in solving world water issues. Turkey hopes for the continued success of future World Water Fora and made a proposal to the World Water Council for an international Prize to honor the activities towards solving critical water issues. The World Water Council and Republic of Turkey Ministry of Forestry and Water Affairs will collaborate on the preparation and the awarding of this Prize. The Prize aims to honor individuals/organizations in promoting applicable scientific studies, new technics, technological innovations, awareness building, regional cooperations on water. The theme of the prize is briefly indicated as “innovative solutions for challenging water problems”.

     

    Prize for Water and Adaptation Actions (PrizeWAA)

    Deadline for applications is February 15, 2012.

    This prize for organisations from the Americas will be awarded on 15 March 2012 during the 6th World Water Forum in Marseille, with a prize of $50,000 awarded by the CONAGUA, the IDB, the FEMSA Foundation, the Water Center for Latin America and the Caribbean, the Water Advisory Council and the Freshwater Action Network Mexico.

    RIEC-International Water & Film Event

    Applications are now closed.

    In the framework of the 6th World Water Forum, the International Secretariat for Water launches the 3rd edition of the International “Water & Film” Event (IWFE).
    Filmmakers, producers, water stakeholders and all citizens who wish to speak on the theme of water can take part to this competition.
    Registration is free. All films that meet the five categories of the competition may compete:
    - The “Soft Spot” category for short films (max. 10 minutes) that capture our hearts, produced by young people aged between 11 and 16 in collaboration with film professionals
    - A VidéEau category for clips of less than 60 seconds made by 17-30 year-olds
    - Personal stories-type documentaries (max. 26 minutes) made by civil society organisations, local stakeholders, etc.
    - Scientific or educational films (max. 26 minutes)
    - Documentaries made by film professionals for screening in cinemas
