• Mobilisation of the Mediterranean water community for the first Mediterranean Water Forum - 19-20 December, 2011 – Marrakech, Morocco

    Upon the initiative of the World Water Council, the Mediterranean Water Institute, the Agence Française de Développement and the Secretary in charge of Water and Environment of Kingdom of Morocco, the first Mediterranean Water Forum will be hosted in Marrakech, 19-20 December 2011.

    Key milestone of the Mediterranean Cross-continental Process of the 6th World Water Forum to be hosted in Marseille, 12-17 March, 2012, this first Mediterranean Forum will be the occasion to set up a platform of dialogue and exchange between all Mediterranean stakeholders concerned with water issues to strengthen the cooperation in this field. More then three hundreds and fifty people from Algeria, Egypt, France, Greece, Moroco, Spain, Turkey, Tunisia, Palestinian Territories, Jordan, Malta, Chypria, Italia, Portugal, Lebanon are expected in Morocco.

    « Water demand management, non-conventional water use, depollution of a shared ecosystem, and governance: these are the main issues the Mediterraneean water community is focusing on for solutions and commitments » according to Hachmi Kennou, Vice-President of the Roots and Citizenship Commission of the 6th World Water Forum and Executive Director of the Mediterranean Water Institute.

    Willing to present the progresses related to the Forum solutions and commitments, this regional event will propose four panels on the key identified priorities:

    -    Water Demand Management
    -    Use of Non Conventional Water Resources
    -    Water Governance
    -    Collection and treatment of Urban and Industrial Wastewater

    For two days, this Forum of Marrakech intends to mobilise et involve the Mediterranean Water community on the same level of commitment to deliver strong and targeted messages and reach the consequent objectives for the sustainable development of the region. This forum is carried out an logical approach of experience and know-how exchanges through an organized dialogue of representatives of all stakeholders in the Mediterranean region, namely: decision-making bodies, local and regional authorities, parliamentarians, donors, representatives of the private sector and experts, regional networks, other civil society stakeholders and State representatives.
