Qatar has neither rivers nor lakes; groundwater is the only available source of accessible freshwater for human consumption and agricultural uses in the country. In 2008, the government sets the Qatar National Food Security Programme (QNFSP) to reduce the Qatar’s reliance on foods imports through the realisation of self-sufficiency.
