The commission for «Grassroots and citizenship» is supporting 34 events or projects through an official ‘6th World Water Forum’ labeling (download the Labeling charter.)
Created to ensure the rooting of the 6th World Water Forum in local realities and to develop citizens’ contributions for water, this local commission – driven by its president Martine Vassal, and by Vice-President, Hachmi Kennou – has up to now certified one project out of three. Indeed, to date, over 120 proposals have been studied by the “Grassroots and citizenship” board.
These are in line with the 2012 forum theme, Time for Solutions, and its 12 priorities and reflect its mission of awareness and education.
A third of these projects are international, another third is national and finally the last third is local, in or around Marseille. Extremely diversified, these projects can be educational, cultural, artistic, sportive, technical, industrial or economic. They come from a variety of sources: associations, public or private organizations, non-governmental, academic institutions as well as social networks or ‘think tank’.
The majority of these events and projects are dedicated to the public at large and many of them involve or target the youth. Half of these projects, 17 out of 34, involve concrete or prospective solutions for water access, distribution, treatment or management. The forum and the topic of water have also attracted the artistic community with 16 projects out of 34. Public officials and representatives of local authorities are also directly involved in 11 projects or events.
These projects may take several forms:
