Solidarity for water in Niger Basin countries

13 October 2011

In July 2010, the United Nations recognised the right to universal access to water. Currently, nearly 900 million people worldwide lack access to improved water sources, over 300 million of whom live in sub-Saharan Africa.

The Forum for ”Solidarity for water in Niger Basin countries” will take place on October 17 and 18, 2011, in Bamako.

This high level Forum will bring together heads of state, African officials, heads of international and regional organisations, and the World Water Council. It will also bring together representatives of NGOs and fields of development, donors, etc.
Prof. Benedito Braga, President of the 6th World Water Forum, Mr. Loic Fauchon, President of the World Water Council, and Mr. André Flajolet, French Deputy, Commissioner for the World Water Forum, will speak, among others, during the lectures, workshops and panel discussions.

This initiative is part of Africa's Regional process of preparation for the 6th World Water Forum, led by AMCOW (African Ministers' Council on Water). Its findings will be formally presented as the Niger Basin countries' contribution during the 6th World Water Forum in Marseille, from March 12 to 17, 2012.
