Description of the visit:
Marseille Geolide waste water purification plant, which can treat the waste water of 1,860,000 inhabitants, was brought into service in 1987 for the physico-chemical treatment, then in 2008 for the biological treatment, is the biggest underground waste water purification plant in the world. Every year, 86 Million cube metres of waste water coming from Marseille and 16 surrounding towns go through the site in order to be cleared of pollution, before being thrown out into the sea without any bad effect on the environment and the sea.
Answering the triple purpose: no visual, no olfactory and no resounding nuisance, Geolide, settled in the center of Marseille, protects the quality of life of Marseille dwellers.
The pedagogic visit of Geolide will entitle you to discover Marseille waste water way, will inform you about the plant running and the water treatment before its return into the sea at Cortiou in the Mediterranean Sea.
A unique and fascinating travel inside the waste water cycle of Marseille!
